SH 190 Eastern Extension
The Eastern Extension is a six-lane, 9.9 mile segment of State Highway (SH) 190 (Loop 9), also known as State Highway (SH) 161, that stretches east from State Highway (SH) 78 in Garland and veers south to Interstate Highway (IH) 30 between Zion Road and Bass Pro Drive. Along the way … it passes through Sachse, Rowlett, over Lake Ray Hubbard until it ends in South Garland. The project is divided into five sections … 28, 29, 30, 31 & 32. Section 32 is being completed by Austin Bridge & Road and involves constructing the one-mile direct-connect bridge between Rowlett & Garland and the northern half of the I-30 interchange. SH 190 East Branch
The next development phase in the Loop 9 expansion is called the East Branch. It involves continuing the PGBT roadway on through South Garland, an isolated part of Dallas County, Sunnyvale and Mesquite until it reaches Interstate 20 as it travels along what is now Lawson Road. This would result in the construction of two more interchanges … on at Highway 80 and the other at IH 20 near Kaufman County. As far as I know it is still in the study and development stages. I attended an open house a couple of years ago in downtown Garland where they had images on display. One of them was an arial photograph combined with an illustration of the future median passing near the intersection of Locust Grove and Peninsula Way at about a 45 degree angle (SE).
